Week of 4/21/25
The week of April 21st Monday started out a cool cloudy and windy day and stayed that way until about 4 in the afternoon. The sun finally came out and it warmed up to 56. After chores I checked the cows and saw 2 new calves. I then did some burning of garbage and the plastic from the hay bales now that the ground is wet. I then fertilized the young maple trees above the house that I have started to tap. By then it was noon. In the afternoon I transplanted 16 maple saplings that were about 8 feet tall.
Tuesday morning was a chilly 34 with rain but that changed quickly as the sun came out and with a south breeze it shot up to a warm 70 degrees. Today is Earth Day so I transplanted some young maples from where it is too thick to where I would like more.
Wednesday it started out cloudy and wet again. Before the sun broke through and it warmed up to 74. After checking the cows I seen 1 new calf. Ruth and I went to Richland Center to do some business and got back home around noon. The rain had quit so in the afternoon I planted some walnuts. I am not feeling good this evening as I am getting a cold.
Thursday morning was again cloudy and wet with rain last night. The field where I feed the cows is getting to be a mess from the constant rain so I rolled out a bale on a steep hill side that was a lot dryer. I noticed that the Killdeer birds are back. To finish out the morning I put fertilizer around the young trees. I probably shouldn’t have as by now I had a deep chest cold.
Friday was a cloudy and cool wet day. I checked the cows then stayed in the house. Sometimes I wrapped up in a blanket cause I was cold and other times I was burning up with high fevers and a bad head ache.
Saturday was a better day with bright sunshine getting up to a pleasant 62. Got 6 new calves today bit one had something wrong with its spine and couldn’t get up. Ted came down and took it up to his place.
Sunday started out as a cloudy day, getting mostly sunny by afternoon. I filled the four bale feeders on the ridge. I then stayed in as I am not feeling good. Sadly sunday did not end so well as at about midnight I had a severe heart attack. I was rushed to the U.W. Hospital by the Highland Ambulance, so this post will be a week late. Next week there wont be one then I will hope to be back.
