This week Monday April 14th started out somewhat warmer going from a low of 38 to a high of 59 and quite windy. When I was checking the cows this morning there was a very thin deer along the edge of the woods that didn’t run away as I got close. I am sure it has the wasting disease. 1 new calf was born today. I worked in my garden today planting onions; got in 500 plants. This evening, I went to the Muscoda Library to hear the author of the book Tailspin, which is a very interesting story.

Tuesday was a very windy day with average temperatures, as well as partly sunny. After checking the cows and seeing 1 new calf I worked on getting the electric fencer working. I finally got it working after I figured out that the fencer was shot. So I put a different one on the line. I then planted walnuts in the woods for the rest of the morning. In the afternoon I went back to the garden to finish up planting the onions; 725 in total.

Wednesday was a clear and frosty morning with a low of 25 but with a bright sun and very little wind. It got to a pleasant 60 degrees so I worked in the woods the rest of the day cleaning out sap lines. I got done with that job.

Thursday was cloudy with a low of 39 and up to 60 for the high. We got a brief shower early the morning, a couple hundreds of an inch. After checking the cows I seen 1 new calf and then worked in the garden for the rest of the morning doing a little of this and that. I dug around the rhubarb plants and fertilized them. Then I planted ten new plants as we never have enough rhubarb with the wife’s pie making business. To finish the morning I planted 3 rows of beets and in the afternoon I put fertilizer around the young walnut trees.

Friday was a warm wet day with about one inch total of rain that came from 2 different storms; the first of which came in at 4:30, with some hail but little rain. The second storm came in at around 6 with heavy rain. After checking the cows I worked in the raspberry patch doing some pruning and thinning out the canes. Got some light rain for most of the afternoon. I then made some phone calls to book stores about stocking my books. I now have a number of stores in the Dakotas that will carry the book.

Saturday was a pleasant day with some mixed clouds and sun; getting up to 60 after starting out at 38 degrees. After taking my hay to the cows I worked in the woods fertilizing walnut trees and transplanting young maple trees.

Easter Sunday started out at a chilly 30 degrees with a bright sunshine that quickly got the temp up to 51 before the clouds moved in by 9. After checking the cows I figured I might get some carrots planted. The soil was a bit wet so I thought I would wait until afternoon and went in the house to watch some Market to Market on T.V., it is a very good farm program. A light rain then started so I did not get to plant any carrots. This evening we went up to Ted and Renae’s farm for the Easter get-together. Thus ending this week.
